One of the things I appreciate about the journey of life is how unexpected it can be. You can be happily travelling down one road, when all of a sudden, you find yourself having to make a turn that you hadn't anticipated. When I was 17 years old, my plan was to become the next Frank Lloyd Wright. Then, after my freshman year in college, I went on a mission trip from my home in Florida to the mountains of North Carolina and everything changed. A year later, I transferred to Pfeiffer College (now Pfeiffer University), where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Religion. My new plan was to do youth ministry, teach Bible, and maybe do some counseling on the side. My plans...

A few years later, another detour took me into a dark forest, out of which I struggled to find my way. Even though I didn't deserve it, the hand of Providence allowed me to find a few pastures in that wilderness: I met my wife, had a couple of smart, sassy, beautiful daughters, and earned my Master's Degree in Counseling at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. When I finally emerged from the woods, "bloom where you're planted" became words to live by. And "ministry" took on a new definition. As it turns out, you don't have to work for the church to minister to people!

My first job out of grad school was working in community mental health, where I remained from 2001 to 2017. Working in North Carolina's odd, hybrid-public/private non-profit mental health sector with some incredible mentors shaped me into a passionate advocate for people struggling with mental health and substance use issues, and has allowed me the opportunity to hone my craft as a teacher and trainer, as well. Through all of that, however, I struggled to find voice for my faith, and I longed for a venue where I could incorporate that faith into my practice. So, in March of 2014, InSight Counseling & Consultation Services was born as a part-time venture in the back of a small, rural primary care office. In April 0f 2017, that part-time endeavor became my full-time passion. I am blessed to work down the hall from several gifted healers who share my belief that each of us is a whole person—body, mind and spirit—and recognize the value of truly integrated care.

I trust you will find my services genuine, challenging, and focused on helping you become everything you were created to be. At InSight Counseling & Consultation, I am focused on providing therapeutic and educational services with the highest levels of clinical competence, service, and satisfaction. And I will do everything I can to meet or exceed your expectations. Please look around the website and if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to email me .

I would be surprised if this were the end of my journey, but I'm certainly learning to enjoy the view along the way. As for my plans...

Jeremiah 29:11: "For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope."

Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

(Scripture quotations from the New Revised Standard Version Bible, copyright 1989.)
